Cycling trip at Pulau Ketam 11-Jan-2008

Jan 11, 2008

It's Friday, my friend and I made a trip to Pulau Ketam (Crab Island), which is about an hour of driving from KL. It is very easy to reached using Federal Highway to Pulau Ketam Jetty. The jetty was built in 1997, yet, the tickets was sold on the ferries itself. Hence, no need to go into the building itself. Probably this is a working Friday, almost all of the passengers are residence of Pulau Ketam, not much outsiders like us. The air-cond ferries only costs RM7 per trip, which takes about 30 mins.

It was low tide when we reached Pulau Ketam. The crabs can be seen easily at the muddy area everywhere.

When we reached, its the lunch time, hence we got a great seafood meal. Of course, crab is in the top list ! :) Yummy...

After that, we rented a bicycle to travel around the "island". There is no car around the island, with countable motorcycles. Most people are travelling by foot or by bicycle. Some with motored-bicycle. It had been years since we last rode a bicycle, yet not hard to pick up. :) Having the bicycle does save us alot of travelling time. As much of the place had been cemented, it is pretty easy to cycle around.

Care need to be take care as the track is just enough for 2 bicycle. The locals cycle faster and will overtake anytime. Besides, there are a few bridges around the island. If your legs are not strong enough, better get down and push the bicycle instead.

As this is a fishing village, the comman scene are drying of salt fish and shrimp, drying of fishing net as well.

Even the crows eyeing eagerly on the dried shrimp.

Unloading the goods from the ferry.

Isn't it great to relax on the fishing net chair like this?

It's about 4pm and a few fishing boats are coming back.

These boats carries the fresh food such as pork and grocecies for the residence here.

Before back to the mainland, we bought some local made chips, dried shrimp and dried "boneless fish". Just a few hours of trip gives me much exercise, and a great meal.
